Replying to @tweeter_anita
@tweeter_anita #Immigration has been manufactured into a convenient boogeyman, by conflating everything from skilled migrants legally (and desperately needed) immigrating as Surgical Consultants, through to the small numbers of people coming here illegally by boat from France.

So fundamentally can the country afford this preference against foreign-born people that a few people hold? And if we frame the question in that far more honest way, is that really what any majority want? Spoiler alert: every poll I've seen says not. So why keep up the pretence?

I ask the question in light of the @UKLabour leader's speech this week that included echoes of Enoch Powell and The Brexit Leave Campaign. And how much media is pressuring Labour to pander further right. The data says the threat to Labour comes from supporters defecting left.

I followed Nigel Farage on and off for 10 years. When all's said and done about his standing in Clacton, milkshake incident etc, he remains at the end of the day one of the most repugnant shameless liars in UK history. Some of his standout lesser-known lies I've compiled FTR 🧵

Some disasters don't make the news, because they happen every single day. We've become accustomed to these catastrophes, even though they're often (much) worse than even the worst news on the front pages. Case in point: the tobacco industry. /1

This is such an important point, because words mean things! They didn't 'lose their house', the bank took it when they missed a payment. Let's say what we mean: "Mass biodiversity destruction, causing many permanent extinctions, for short term corporate profit"
Wild how we call it biodiversity "loss" instead of biodiversity destruction. Biodiversity is not just spontaneously disappearing.

Someone was telling me about this good samaritan geezer, out of that Bible. Talk about virtue signalling #wokerati! I hear even the Pope wears a dress now (or 'robe' he calls it). Bloody lefties... Wait till I tell the @DailyMailUK

Incompetence is rife in this government. No wonder they still see Liz Truss as 'popular'
Evan Davis schools the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Laura Trott, on debt to GDP. ED: This is really basic... I'm amazed you don't know that debt is rising LT: I've got different figures #bbcpm

The footage of Israeli soldiers torturing and humiliating detained Palestinian men in Gaza is horrific. We’ve seen terrible images like this from genocides throughout history. We know what this leads to. Never again means never again for anyone.

A new plot to mine the unexplored deep ocean seabed is currently being foiled by some amazing activists in the Pacific. Huge respect to them. Hopefully we'll be able to study and learn about these ecosystems, rather than destroy them. abcnews.go.com/Business/wire… #stopdeepseamining

Presenting this without the context that he was instructed to use the side of the hammer is disingenuous. Along with not having the moral fortitude to back a ceasefire for Gaza, you may actually be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at this rate. Shape up. #bbcaq
Rishi Sunak: not the son of a toolmaker
Community note
This is misleading and missing important context. The full unedited version of the clip shows the woman with him saying 'use this bit' to which Rishi Sunak replies 'sideways?' and she says 'yes.' twitter.com/ionewells/stat…

Hey @BBCPolitics - how are we still having all male panels in this day and age on things like the #AutumnStatement? We pitched six brilliant women today for broadcast who could have taken part in this discussion
