Do we even care about art?
We go to an event and all we talk about is who we schmoozed with, the connections we made.
An artist sells and we analyze the charts, the trends, the timing. We check to see if the work is included in reports, and if people are talking about it on the timeline.
We see an upcoming release and the pattern repeats. We speculate, anticipate, assign value before it even exists.
It seems like we care about what surrounds art, the people, the market, the noise, but not the art itself.
Maybe we don’t care about art because caring asks too much of us. It would mean looking beyond the gains, trusting our instincts, learning, and facing what unsettles us instead of engaging with what is safe.
I am not sure we are ready to care, or if we even want to.
