You can take Franco out of Spain but you can’t take Franco out of the Spanish police…
Spanish teachers striking for better conditions reported police violence. Commenters questioned why similar force isn't applied elsewhere.

Ok enough discourse. I’m now declaring today Filipino Appreciation Day
As I predicted, this discourse has metastasized into racism against Filipinos. Good job everyone!

Just came across this on Facebook and it reminded me about that ube guy and my own post about spaghetti. To non-Filipino twt who kept saying it's not that serious: this is how seriously we take our food. We have culinary civil wars about them. LOL

Me: We were invaded and enslaved and made to cook the food of our oppressors. An experience that Black people should understand instead of accusing us of stealing from them. This girl: YOU'RE POACHING OUR TRAUMA. LMAO I can't. I swear.

Do Americans think English class is all about grammar? I didn't even notice the AAVE until people pointed it out. But I guess that just proves my point that y'all are stupid. 6th Grade English is also where kids are taught more advanced reading comprehension. LMAO

Filipino food profile lean more towards savory, sour, and yes, sweet. Also LOL at no fresh vegetables. Some of our food are literally JUST that plus some seasoning.
Why is Filipino food so unlike the neighboring countries in SEA? Virtually no spice and everything sweet and no fresh herbs or veggies.

You exploited our people, stripped our land of our resources, and backed a dictator who buried us in debts that we're still paying to this day and you think you're the best thing to happen to us? Bitch before you put Marcos into power, we're richer than Sokor and Singapore.
Being a US colony might have been the most important thing to happen to the Philippines in that time period, but having the Philippines as a colony doesn't rank among the top 5 most important things to happen to the US during that period.

I love how my criticism of the obvious lack of discussion about the economic repercussions of WWII to the Philippines, which was at the time a US colony, in US BEC got Americans out of the woodwork to prove me right that they do, in fact, have subpar education.
The invention of Filipino spaghetti is closely tied to American history, btw. And this person is American. This just proves that American schools don't teach their children their own history.

The Philippines was a US colony from 1898 to 1946. Our history at that time was YOUR history too. You didn't learn about Rizal because he died before you even stepped foot in our lands. This is what I'm talking about. You don't even know how intertwined our histories are.
Bro we're not teaching the nuance of how the Japanese decimated Filipino farming post ww2 so the abundance of US rations in the Philippines lead the the creation of banana spaghetti. You get we don't even learn about Jose Rizal right... Just like you don't learn about Sam Houston

The same people who told you that you simply don't know what "recipe development" is are also telling you that this is a death threat. Pot, meet kettle.
filipino here! instead of ube, u might actually want to try its alternative — kurot 🫶 almost the same as ube, purple-pigmented but richer, sweeter, and fuller in flavor. in fact, you can eat it raw unlike ube which requires a taxing preparation. foreigners should give it a try!
Community note
DO NOT EAT RAW KUROT. Kurot, or Dioscorea hispida, is highly lethal in its raw state. It contains dioscorine, a potent neurotoxin that can cause paralysis of the central nervous system, respiratory failure, and death if consumed without proper detoxification. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12…

So there's this ongoing narrative that he was getting "thousands" of death threats so I got curious and looked through his QRTs to see if that were true. Keep in mind that he closed both his DMs and replies just a few hours after he trended. Would you be surprised I found none?
