The barrier to buying a home is a larger downpayment. The nice thing about buying a home is the none-mark to market leverage. Why not give young people none mark to market leverage to buy SPY which the downpayment can be as little as $20

There are very few negative externalities when stock prices go up
When house prices go up, the most important human need (shelter) gets more expensive for everyone
