Unbowed in the Storm Dear fellow Filipinos, I am facing the greatest battle of my life—defending the Filipino people. There are threats to my life, my career, and even my PRC license. These threats have been relayed to me through persons, and I take them seriously. If anything happens to me, let it be clear: politicians are the primary suspects. I will fight for all of you. If I should lose this fight at the Philippine College of Physicians, then my clinical practice would be jeopardized. It is a difficult decision, but I will take the challenge, hoping that God and truth will be on my side. I am not asking for help—only prayers. At 65, I can say I have lived a good life. But I will not stop. The Philippine College of Physicians has been used to silence me, and complicity is a crime. God bless our country.

A newspaper clipping about the young Jovito Salonga is making the rounds online, and it is easy to understand why. The short article identified Salonga as a 27-year-old law professor who had already earned law degrees from both Harvard and Yale, and had just won the Andrew Cottier Prize for writing the best paper on International Law at Yale. For many Filipinos, the clipping is not just nostalgia. It is an indictment. At a time when the Senate is filled with a mix of lawyers, broadcasters, actors, former police officials, political heirs, executives, and career politicians, Salonga’s credentials feel almost unreal. Long before he became Senate President, Salonga had already topped the Philippine Bar, studied at Harvard and Yale, taught law, and built a reputation as one of the country’s sharpest legal minds. But Salonga was not admired for brilliance alone. As senator, he became one of the country’s most respected and principled public servants—a lawmaker known for independence, integrity, and courage even when his positions were unpopular. He fought the Marcos dictatorship, defended political prisoners, survived the Plaza Miranda bombing, and continued speaking truth to power. After EDSA, he chaired the PCGG and helped pursue the recovery of ill-gotten wealth. As Senate President, he also led the historic 1991 vote rejecting the extension of the U.S. bases treaty. That is why the old clipping stings. At 27, Salonga was already being recognized internationally for scholarship. Later, he proved that intelligence could be matched with moral courage. The issue is not that only lawyers or academics should sit in the Senate. Public service can come from many professions. But the viral Salonga clipping reminds Filipinos of a higher standard: senators who were not merely famous, but formidable. In that sense, the post is less about the past than the present. It quietly asks whether voters are still sending their best to the Senate.

THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A SKYWAY I condemn the DENR for allowing the tree-cutting and earth-balling of HUNDREDS OF TREES along Quirino Avenue in Manila City. All of these trees cut. Just to pave the way for the construction of the “Southern Access Link Expressway” (SALEX) by San Miguel Corporation. The SALEX spans a measly 4 kilometers but four elevated lanes. A total of 617 trees will be affected. 617 trees — all of it for just 4 kilometers of an expressway which will never reduce traffic because all expressways have been proven to actually induce demand for automobiles according to empirical research and scientific studies. Hundreds of trees have ALREADY been cut but hundreds more will be cut in the next few days. I call on President Bongbong Marcos, the DENR, SMC, and the City of Manila to stop this madness. SAVE THE TREES! 🌲🌳🪾 #SaveTheTrees Photo credits to ABS-CBN News and Manila Times x.com/ABSCBNNews/status/2056…

Now you can download and read Pope Leo XIV's Magnifica Humanitas, the first encyclical of his pontificate. The document was released by the Holy See on May 25, 2026. The encyclical develops the Churchʼs social teaching in light of artificial intelligence, situating new questions of human dignity, labor, and the common good within the tradition that runs from Rerum Novarum through Centesimus Annus and Laudato Si'. Download and read the full encyclical as a PDF here: ewtnnews.com/vatican/full-te…

Bihira ako humirit ng Latin maxim, pero eto parang bagay sa panahon: Fatetur facinus qui judicium fugit. He who escapes judgment confesses his guilt. Ibig sabihin, kung pumuslit ka nang alas-dos ng madaling araw, hindi siguro dahil inosente ka. ⚖️

Someone has to be made accountable for Bato’s escape. No less than the DILG Secretary and PNP Chief entered the senate building last night to secure the senators. The public was assured last night Bato was in the “5th foor, in his room, resting”. Bato’s lawyer showed a video last night of Bato supposedly in the senate. The senate building should’ve been secured last night - no one in, no one out. We need answers. How did Bato escape? Who helped him?

Thank you very much, Senator @kikopangilinan, for taking the time to travel all the way to Pagasa Island despite your busy schedule to personally stand with our troops. Your visit brought much-needed encouragement to our local residents of the Municipality of Kalayaan; and our brave uniformed services, who are steadfastly guarding our sovereignty and sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea! Maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong suporta at patuloy na pagtindig!
