I am giving an online zoom talk about Ethel Carnie Holdsworth for Heptonstall Museum on Thur 9th Jan, 7-8.30pm. A rare example of a working class female writer, she was an ethical socialist who fought for social justice. From free-£3, link below: heptonstallmuseumfriends.org…

Excellent interview with @Runrober on @timesradio today. Time to ditch the misleading idea that English doesn't lead to a good job: see universityenglish.ac.uk/engl… and British Academy reports. English doesn't just lead to one career, but to a huge choice of careers

@CarolineLucas, Tim Oates and I fought so hard to get it accepted, only for it to be blocked at the last minute. Nature needs us all to get behind this and put nature education at the heart of school life and learning. This is too important to be trashed by party politics.
IMPORTANT The campaign for a GCSE in Natural History has stalled. Labour see it as a "Conservative initiative" and won't progress it. It is not a political football, every child has the right to learn about the wonder of the natural world. Plse ask you MP to lobby for it now. 🙏

On a day when Boris Johnson has no doubt enriched himself royally from the publication of his book, @BJennings90 could not have put it more searingly. Thank you, Ben, for speaking so fiercely, on behalf of so many of us 💔

So "prominent criticism of [transatlantic] slavery" is a problem now?? We should remember those people who were enslaved by the British, lest we forget. And acknowledge the harms of this history & the legacies of that brutal slavery system: otherwise we deepen the damage.
Replying to @aljhlester
In the Telegraph Robert Tombs agreed that ‘increasingly prominent criticism of slavery and the British Empire’ and ‘the generally negative portrayal of British history in the media, fiction, TV, films and schools’ were to blame.

Hang a banner from a motorway gantry and you are going to jail. Dump billions of litres of sewage into the environment for millions of hours and nothing. And no matter what anybody says that is not going to change. Justice? 👇
Both of the actions you see in these photos potentially amount to the offence of ‘public nuisance’. One is punishable with “long, long prison sentences” & the other is rewarded with huge bonuses & billions in profits. Why the disparity? What does this mean for the rule of law?
