More great reporting by @amir. Building AVs is hard. Lots of problems to iron out. I am actually somewhat encouraged by this article - it sounds like @waymo has some fairly discrete issues to work out. At the same time, very clear that deployment will be incremental.
Waymo has self-driven 8 million miles on public roads, now at a rate of 25K miles per day. This real-world experience, plus over 5 billion miles in simulation, is how we're building the world’s most experienced driver.
