Project Stargate and "securing the American leadership in AI" sounds noble but has a near-zero chance of succeeding given the current AI landscape, where non-US competitors (DeekSeek and soon many others) can replicate and beat Open AI at 1/100 or 1/1000 of the cost. In a way, this is the result of restricting China's access to AI chips and US technology earlier, causing Chinese ingenuity to compete on its own resources, and clearly, doing better. And I suspect we only see the tip of the iceberg just now. As many others pointed out, China will surpass the US in every key area (fusion energy, space travel, AI, etc.) in the next 1-2-3 years, and the US will need to rethink its approach to its neighbors, allies, and to China itself if it wants to MAGA.
