Whoever pulled the data for this could have chosen specific metrics to index that resulted in a specific outcome (or could just outright be lying if they don’t publish the data). This likely doesn’t have any sentiment analysis either, so negative comments towards games would also count towards their placement on this chart. (For example, Highguard would likely be high on this graph, and while I thought the game was fun, we all know that’s not why it would have ended up here)
If you believed Astro Bot winning GOTY two years ago was rigged, you should also consider placement on this graph could be rigged. You have no reason to blindly trust data - if somebody is showing you data, they’re selling something. This graph is selling sensationalism - almost perpetual free marketing by fueling these exact arguments. And that free marketing was very likely paid for by the games on this chart. Maybe not all of them, but there are definitely some games that should not be on here, and some games that should be that are missing.
