The Deputy Minister of Sports Arts and Culture Hon.Peace Mabe today Friday 27 March 2026, handed over an Event Flag of the 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, to the Western Cape Government who will be hosting this event together with the City of Cape Town in 2027. This global event scheduled to take place in Cape Town from 6–10 October 2027, will be the first of its kind hosted on the African continent and is expected to attract athletes from approximately 80 countries. The Deputy Minister in her adress said ” I have never doubted South Africa’s capabilities in hosting Sport, Arts and Cultural International events, however, at the back of hosting the LIV Golf successfully, I am even 1000% sure that the 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships will be a resounding success, just like LIV Golf. I cannot wait for the launch of this event in Cape Town in April 2026. I cannot wait for the start of 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in October 2027, because this event will cement South Africa as World Sporting Tourist destination , but most importantly it will solidify South Africa’s place in the World, as a Country, capable to host successfully, any World Sport, Arts and Culture events” The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Mr Ricardo Mackenzie; the MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in the North West Province, Ms Galebekwe Tlhapi; the Head of Department for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Mr Guy Redman; and the Chairperson of Western Province Athletics, Mr Farouk Meyer. #InspiringANationOfWinners
