Department of Education: Budget in FY 2019: $104.4 BILLION Budget in FY 2024: $268.4 BILLION What exactly did parents and children get for this 157% increase? According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) aka “Nation’s Report card” in 2024: 4th grade reading: 40% lack fundamental reading skills 4th grade math: 36% score below “basic” 8th grade reading: 33% score below proficiency level 8th grade math: 38% scored below “basic” Nearly all measures have showed continued decline each year. Lower performing students have seen steeper declines widening gaps with high performers. In 2023, 13-year-old Black students saw a 13-point drop in math scores compared to a 6 point drop for white students. Data shows US children are struggling academically with reading proficiency . . . alarming is 2/3rds of 4th & 8thgraders are not proficient and a significant portion can’t meet basic standards. Parents & children definitely didn't get improved curriculum or content or even better teachers or better services. What parents & children got was the DOE's 4,400 employees with average salaries of $120,000-$144,000. Is that what your local teacher makes???
