#USAF United States Air Force - Middle East Activity
24/25 February - 1500z
As of 1500z on 25th February, there have been at least 296 C-17/C-5 flights from U.S. bases in the United States, Japan and Europe related to the build up of forces in the Middle East. Additionally, there are 13 pending Army flights, and 12 pending Air Force flights. RAF Lakenheath also looks to now be a destination in the build up, rather than just a stop-off point.
There have been at least three flights from Campbell Army Airfield, home to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
There are several active Coronet missions, with 11x F-22s from the 94th Fighter Squadron at Langley Air Force Base having deployed to Ovda Air Base in Israel on the 24th February, an additional 6x F-22s from Langley's 27th Fighter Squadron arriving at RAF Lakenheath last night, with 6x more due today, and F-15Es/F-35As due from Seymour Johnson AFB, Mountain Home AFB and Hill AFB.
I will do a seperate post on the Coronets once things are a bit more clear.
NOTE: All information is obtained through public sources (ADS-B/ACARS), and discrete movements are not included.
Airlift Movements
There have been a few notable movements from new origin bases that we haven't seen much from so far.
Langley Air Force Base, Virginia
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 8x
#AE0802 98-0056 - REACH 343 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE119B 03-3118 - REACH 551 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE145D 06-6159 - REACH 406 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE2FA4 08-8192 - REACH 799 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE1177 02-1105 - REACH 464 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE20C3 07-7182 - REACH 037 (RAF Lakenheath)
#AE1453 05-5149 - REACH 634 (RAF Lakenheath)
#AE49C6 09-9210 - REACH 291 (Pending)
There have been eight C-17 flights so far from Langley Air Force Base, home to the 94th and 27th Fighter Squadrons. Five have gone to Ovda Air Base in Southern Israel where TREND 51/61 flights deployed to yesterday. Meanwhile, interestingly, two C-17s as Special Assignment Airlift Missions (SAAM) have flown to RAF Lakenheath - they presumably unloaded here and departed back to CONUS. A single C-17, REACH 291, is still in-progress.
There are rumours that the 28th FS F-22s currently deploying to the UK will actually stay here for a while and act as a reserve for those deployed. There are also rumours they are here to backfill for the F-35As which have been deployed.
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 6x
#AE49C7 09-9211 - REACH 787 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE4D69 10-0216 - REACH 784 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE1463 06-6165 - REACH 783 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE1198 03-3115 - REACH 156 (Ovda Air Base)
#AE146D 07-7175 - REACH 790 (RAF Lakenheath)
#AE07E9 95-0106 - REACH 798 (Pending)
There have been six C-17s from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, with four continuing to Ovda Air Base in Israel, one dropping off at Lakenheath like REACH 037/634 from Langley, and REACH 798 is still pending at Spangdahlem.
Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 3x
#AE2FA4 08-8192 - REACH 409 (Pending)
#AE1237 03-3126 - REACH 681 (Pending)
#AE146E 07-7176 - REACH 685 (Pending)
There are three pending flights from Mountain Home Air Force Base. They haven't yet departed. REACH 685 is looking very similar to the flights from Seymour Johnson and Langley which unloaded at RAF Lakenheath.
Diego Garcia Naval Support Facility
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 2x
#AE145F 06-6161 - REACH 862
#AE1459 06-6155 - REACH 289
Two C-17s have arrived at Diego Garcia, but from their mission codes they don't appear to be dropping anything off. They're either transiting or picking something up.
Army Airfields
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 3x
#AE20C8 07-7187 - REACH 791
#AE2FA8 08-8196 - REACH 423
#AE2FAA 08-8198 - REACH 792
We're now seeing flights from Campbell Army Airfield. They're flying via Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and their final destination is unknown. Campbell AAF is home to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division flying AH-64, CH-47, UH-60 and AH-64 helicopters, as well as the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
