Uganda’s economy is more connected to the rest of the world than ever! In FY24/25, net portfolio investment (inflows less outflows) saw a sharp turnaround to over US$600 million from net outflows of US$342 million in FY23/24. This means global investors are confidently buying Ugandan government securities. This vote of confidence helps stabilise our exchange rate and economy and supports the development of our financial markets. Reliable data on these capital flows is crucial—it helps us understand global sentiments and manage risks for financial stability. 2/ Did you know? Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) isn't just about capital—it's about long-term partnerships that build our nation! In 2023, Uganda’s FDI stock grew to US$18.2 billion, largely driven by the energy (oil) sector. This isn't just a number; it's the foundation for jobs, technology transfer, and sustainable infrastructure that will benefit Ugandans for decades. By making FDI data ready, we empower policymakers to attract strategic investments that align with Uganda’s development goals. Data isn’t just numbers; it’s the blueprint for our socio-economic transformation. Ever wondered how Uganda connects with the global economy? The Balance of Payments (BoP) tells our story. It tracks all of Uganda's transactions with the rest of the world, such as: · What we sell abroad (e.g., coffee, gold, tourism) · What we buy from abroad (e.g., machinery, fuel) · Income and transfers (e.g., dividends, remittances) · Investment flows (e.g. FDI) By making this data ready and accessible, we're not just counting numbers—we're mapping Uganda's path to sustainable prosperity! These statistics guide policies that strengthen our economy, attract investment, and ensure inclusive growth for all. As the region marked #AfricanStatisticsWeek some countries such as Uganda stood out with relatively strong capacity to produce and use #GenderData. More hands on deck and regular funding can help boost capacity in countries with lower scores. #WomenCount
