We are delighted to announce the launch of Getting Agricultural Markets Right, co-edited by Dr. Ashok Gulati, Dr. Raya Das, and Dr. Tirthankar Patnaik, held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
The event convened a distinguished gathering of policymakers, academics, industry professionals, FPO leaders, and market experts to deliberate on one of the most consequential challenges confronting Indian agriculture today: How can India reform its agricultural marketing system to ensure fair price discovery, effective risk management, and higher farmer incomes?
We were honoured by the presence of Dr. Ashok Lahiri (Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog) and Dr. S. Mahendra Dev (Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister) as Chief Guests, with special remarks by Dr. Ramesh Chand. Discussions led by Dr. Ashok Gulati, alongside eminent panelists from government, academia, agri-business, commodity exchanges, FPOs, and digital agriculture, made for a rich and substantive dialogue.
Among the central themes explored:
🌾 Crop-specificity and regional dimension of procurement
📈 Price risk management and the role of agri-derivatives
🤝 FPO strengthening and value-chain integration
💻 Digital infrastructure, AgriStack, AI, and supply chain traceability
🚜 Technology-driven solutions and market accessibility
🌍 Positioning Indian agriculture within competitive global value chains
Rooted in empirical evidence across seven commodity markets, the book examines market structures, price dynamics, MSP frameworks, futures markets, digital platforms, and emerging technologies — charting a credible course toward a more competitive and farmer-centric agricultural economy in India.
Deep appreciation to the distinguished speakers, attendees, and the dedicated teams at ICRIER and
@NSEIndia who made this convening possible.
