ALT Aphasia Aphasia is a communication difficulty caused by damage to the language part of the brain. Aphasia does not affect intelligence. Aphasia affects everyone differently, and people with aphasia may communicate in different ways. Remember All communication is valid!

ALT Some children might not wear a costume because it is too uncomfortable. Comment on what they are wearing, e.g. 'what a lovely dress'; 'those are cool light-up shoes'. Some children might find 'Trick or Treat' hard to say or have difficulty explaining their costume . The words may get stuck or the sounds may be tricky to make. Try not to ask 'what did they say?' in front of them. Some children may find the sights and sounds of Halloween a bit overwhelming and others may get over excited. Try to give children the time they need. Try not to ask too many questions or to rush them along.
ALT World Stroke Day This Sunday is World Stroke Day. A stroke is a brain attack caused when something blocks blood getting around the brain, or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Stroke can affect different parts of the brain in different ways. Speech and Language Therapists can help if communication and feeding have been affected.

ALT Today is LĂĄmh Day This year's theme is "LĂĄmh for Living". What? LĂĄmh is a form of communication. It is a manual sign system based on Irish sign language. Who? LĂĄmh can be used by anyone. It is most commonly used by neurodivergent individuals and the people in their lives. Why? Using LĂĄmh helps a person to express their needs and wants and to take part in conversation. This can also reduce frustration. How? You can learn LĂĄmh by attending a course run by a LĂĄmh Tutor. This year's theme is "LĂĄmh for Living".
