Tickets are selling out quickly to A Charleston Affair on May 4, so if you haven’t already purchased yours, please visit
bit.ly/ACAtickets2024 to reserve your spot at the party of the year! We asked A Charleston Affair veterans Suzette Jeffries Timme ’84 and Bill Timme for their best advice on Spring Alumni Weekend. While at CofC, Ms. Timme majored in education and joined @AlphaDeltaPi She is a member of the Alumni Association's Board of Directors.
How will you travel to Charleston?
We usually fly since it’s an easy non-stop flight from Washington, D.C.
Where will you stay?
We love being downtown so that we can walk to most everything. The Planters Inn, the Market Pavilion and The Charleston Place are our usual spots. I saw The Ryder was listed on the Alumni Discount Directory, and it is in a great location for us. Though we’ve not had a chance to stay there yet, we look forward to giving it a try on a future visit. Check out alumni hotel discounts:

What are your must-dos for the weekend?
Friday evening, the Alumni Association Annual Meeting is 4-5 pm, and after that we’ll attend the 1770 Society Reception. Friday night is for discovering something new for us. I love getting recommendations from friends. We’ve had lovely evenings recently at Sorelle, Husk, Chez Nous, Circa 1886, and Lowland, Vern’s, Chubby Fish, and 167 Raw. We always have a meal at SNOB, it’s a ritual for us!
Saturday morning, I usually start the day with a run along the Battery and around Colonial Lake. We might go to brunch at Eli’s Table or 82 Queen. A stroll down King Street and some shopping are always on the agenda. On warmer, sunny days, we enjoy a boat trip up the intracoastal with a stop for some local seafood in the afternoon. We also enjoy driving out to Sullivan’s Island or Folly Beach (with perhaps a stop at Bowens Island on the return).
Saturday evening is A Charleston Affair and as Alumni Association sponsors, we have All Access VIP, baby! And there’s nothing better! It is hands-down one of our favorite events of the year. It’s a spectacular evening with The Cistern in all its glory!
Some of the best times we have had during Spring Alumni Weekend have been after the festivities end. We’re known to gather with friends on a nearby piazza (after a stop at the campus CVS which is surprisingly well-stocked) and share stories and laughs until the late hours. When I leave town the following day, I do so with a renewed since of pride for having been a part of such a special place. We can't wait for May 3-4!
