Larvae imported from continental Europe, where the species is widespread, have been overwintered in controlled flight cages within Knepp's extensive scrubland. These trials are designed to assess survival rates and habitat suitability before any wider release takes place. Updates shared via Knepp's social media channels suggest that early indications are encouraging, with larvae developing as expected in blackthorn- and hawthorn-rich habitat.
