Fantastic news for @AnaesUnited, the Chesterton family, and the public! DAUK calls for an immediate pause on the expansion of physician associate (PA) and anaesthesia associate (AA) roles following a landmark High Court ruling.

‼️#AnaesthesiaAssociate SCANDAL
To COVER EMERGENCY THEATRE & VASCULAR service for #Scotland 😳
What. About. PATIENT. SAFETY.
Imagine putting YOUR LIFE in the hands of such an individual
TERRIFYING that #NHSScotland think this is in ANY WAY ACCEPTABLE
Contempt for patients
From Dec 23 to April 24, there were 72 shifts on doctors rotas that were taken by PAs in the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust
These were in ED and for ENT
Alarmingly, 2 were taken by Trainee PAs. Yes trainee PAs
An excerpt from the FOI response of the shifts taken
I am sure they will be moving to 'tiered rotas' soon
🆘Hello @UniOfHull@HullHospitals
Your PA student was busy video recording a Doctor whilst he was rushing to save the life of a newborn baby with potential Respiratory arrest 💀☠️
⭕️The nurses/midwives put out the call and this sheila was expected to help with delivering samples to the lab or even scribing.
⭕️Neonatal emergencies are not the best time to create content for TikTok. You’re shadowing this Doctor to learn and gain experience.
⭕️I would crucify Medical students if they acted in such reckless and unprofessional manner.
Please educate your PA students.
Thanks
🔴Dear Public,
This is what Doctors go through to become Registrars/Consultants looking after critically unwell/stable patients in primary and secondary care.
⭕️I kid you not, Physician Associates are convinced they are “generalist specialists” with a 2-year MSc degree.

5-6 years Medical school
2 years foundation training
3 years IMT
4 years HST
The timescale used to compare Physician Associates(PAs) to General Practitioners (GPs) is misleading, suggesting the roles are the same.
GPs undergo significantly more training than PAs and the two are not equivalent roles, as confirmed by NHS England.

It was great to welcome #AnaesthesiaAssociate Lucy Bradbury and #Midwife Carys Hammond to our college last week to speak to our #Health and #Care students about their incredible careers and their experience working in the health industry.
Thank you for inspiring our students!
