London’s ‘regional parks’:
Connecting people and nature?
As part of its Swimmable Rivers investigation, #AssemblyEnvironment proposed that the Mayor set up at least four new bathing waters across London by 2028 and put in place the necessary measures to improve water quality and provide facilities such as toilets and changing facilities. The Thames at Ham is the first such site, which the Committee welcomes as a great step forward. theguardian.com/environment/…

“While decarbonised heat networks potentially improve energy security through the use of waste heat and renewable energy, most are currently still hugely affected by price shocks while electricity prices are still linked to gas.
“The ongoing conflict in the Middle East risks rising costs for gas and oil. Even prior to recent price rises, gas prices for customers in the United Kingdom were expected to be 50 per cent higher in March 2026 than in the winter of 2021-22.
“It is only fair that Londoners on heat networks are given the equivalent support with their heating bills that other domestic gas and electricity consumers receive, which is why we are calling on the Government to urgently introduce price protections for heat networks.“

‘As Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee, I am pleased to see that another borough in London has adopted the ‘right to grow’ to allow people to use unused land for growing.
This is something the Committee called on the Mayor to support in our local food growing report, and the Capital Growth food growing network – funded in part by the Mayor - has been supporting across the city.”
#AssemblyEnvironment recently welcomed guests to its first ever #AssemblyEnvironmentForum at City Hall. With a busy day of talks and roundtables, the Committee took stock of what London’s environmental priorities should be going forward.
#AssemblyEnvironment welcomes the news that the River Thames at Ham and Kingston has been proposed by government as one of 13 designated bathing sites in England. The Committee launched its report 'Swimmable Rivers: Towards clean and healthy waterways in London' at this site last year. Thank you to all our speakers and guests at the #AssemblyEnvironmentForum for helping #AssemblyEnvironment review the Mayor of London’s environment targets and how they’re being met.
Has London got its environmental priorities right? Today, #AssemblyEnvironment is holding a forum to take stock of how the Mayor is working towards his environment targets for London, and what London’s environment priorities should be #AssemblyEnvironmentForum

#AssemblyEnvironment today visited the Bunhill Heat and Power Network in @islington to hear about how it takes waste heat from an underground train network to provide low carbon heat to local homes, schools, and leisure centres. This is part of the Committee investigation into heat networks across London: london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…
