I have to say... The latest verison of ChatGPT has a personality.
I enjoy talking to it. I still realize it's just an algorithm, but its a fun tool to bounce things off of and chat with when I'm in a bonkers mood.
Now, I think it's probably OK to treat it like an acquaintence you talk about things with, but who you wouild never take advice from without checking things out first.
I can kind of see how... (How do i say this without being mean) people with less psychological strength can get into weird places with these things. The more you talk to them, the more it normalizes thinking of it like a real person.
I have rules, that might help others who might need them when interacting with these tools:
> Don't give it a name. Never refer to it as a he/she. It's an "it." Not giving it a name helps reinforce that it's a machine, it doesn't have any real conciousness or feelings, that it's just autosuggest on steroids.
> Wipe your history often. These tools learn about you through your chat history, and if they get too chummy, and that might cause issues? Wipe your history every few days. Reset everything you can.
> go to your personalization settings and tell it to be less "warm" for instance, ChatGPT has settings to be "professional" or "candid" so switch to those. For ChatGPT, set "Warmths" to minimum, too. Other tools probably have similar settings.
> Treat your chats with the thing like you were at work, and that IT could read anything you type.
> These tools mirror what you send them. If you get personal with it, talking aobut your relationships, etc, they wil mirror it back to you. IF you talk about your feelings, it'll do the same thing back to you. So don't do it. If you need someone to talk to aobut emotional issues you have, an AI chatbot is the worst place you can go. I know it's easy to do, but DON'T DO IT.
