In recent news, WeRide has been granted remote testing (unmanned) and freight testing licenses by the Guangzhou municipal authorities. Their autonomous freight vehicle, Robovan (referred to as “WeRide Freight Vehicle”), is now cleared for “pure unmanned testing” and “freight testing” of autonomous urban freight vehicles in Guangzhou. Testing will span six administrative districts: Baiyun, Huadu, Panyu, Huangpu, Nansha, Haizhu, and the entire Nansha area, encompassing 797 test roads totaling 3247 kilometers.
WeRide Freight Vehicle, China’s pioneering L4-level autonomous freight vehicle, is built on Jiangling Motors Corporation’s (JMC) Light Commercial Vehicle BEV model. It features WeRide’s comprehensive software and hardware solution, boasting 360° blind spot-free perception, redundant chassis, and intelligent driving capabilities. Operating round the clock across various scenarios—city centers, urban villages, and expressways—it offers efficient, cost-effective, and digitized autonomous freight solutions. This marks China’s debut permit for pure unmanned remote testing of L4-level autonomous freight vehicles on urban open roads, and the nation’s inaugural autonomous freight vehicle cargo testing supporting 24/7 operations. It underscores WeRide’s strides towards commercializing autonomous intra-city freight transport.
