📌Minister of Public Works and Transport
#Fayez_Rasamny toured villages and towns across the Upper Metn region, responding to an invitation from MP Hadi Abou Al-Hassan, Secretary of the Democratic Gathering bloc. The tour began in the town of Shweit and continued through several localities, where the minister inspected ongoing road maintenance and rehabilitation works across the area.
🔹The tour was joined by the President of the Union of Upper Metn Municipalities, Karim Sarkis, Vice President Qassem Al-Masri, Progressive Socialist Party Metn District Commissioner Ghassan Zeidan, technical advisor Eng. Issam Kaskas, Minister’s Office Director Dureid Bou Saiid, and the mayors of the towns visited.
🔹Following the tour, a meeting was held at MP Abou Al-Hassan’s residence in Falougha, attended by Minister Rasamny and the region’s mayors. Discussions focused on the projects currently being implemented and the urgent development priorities to be addressed in the coming year.
🔹In his remarks after receiving a commemorative shield from MP Abou Al-Hassan and the President of the Union of Municipalities, Minister Rasamny commended Abou Al-Hassan’s “daily efforts for the Upper Metn, which was the first region where road maintenance operations began.” He pledged to “launch a study for the highway and tunnel that will connect the Port of Beirut to the Bekaa Valley and onward to the Masnaa border crossing,” stressing that “the completion of this project will stimulate the national economy, serve both the Upper and Northern Metn, and help solve the heavy-truck traffic problem on main roads.”
🔹Rasamny added: “There are many feasible projects that only require determination and decision-making, among them, linking the port to the Metn and the Bekaa, and extending the route northward. Everyone hears about the Port of Tripoli and Qlayaat Airport; the North is rich in its people and potential, yet the state has long neglected it. Once we implement the road to the North, genuine self-driven development will follow.”
🔹The Minister also highlighted “the national vision of leader Walid Jumblatt and MP Taymour Jumblatt, whose guidance has been clear that the ministry’s work must be carried out equally across all regions, and this is exactly what we are doing.” He explained that since assuming office, he had “reviewed the expenditure records of previous years and restored balance to the ministry’s allocations,” underscoring that “public funds come from taxpayers and must never be spent vindictively, but patriotically.” Rasamny reaffirmed that “the Ministry of Public Works operates with fairness across all governorates and districts.”
🔹Rasamny went on to note: “Some regions were deprived for years, and we are giving them priority today. Others were destroyed by Israeli aggression and deserve exceptional attention. What we saw in Mseileh after the airstrikes reminds us of the need to focus efforts on the devastated areas, without neglecting any part of Lebanon.”
🔹The Minister concluded by calling on “municipal heads to begin preparing project files, prioritizing roads that connect governorates and districts and those classified as main routes under the ministry’s jurisdiction.” Rasamny finally affirmed that “the Ministry of Public Works remains committed to a balanced national plan that serves all regions equally and without discrimination.”
