THE highlight for me at #BenchmarkWeek was this discussion with @jbstraubel @RedwoodMat a leading start up for 🇺🇸recycling AND cathodes. - "we will get what we incentivize"; - the IRA language "as written" (and he had some input in helping to write that language) was bullish midstream; - but the "implementation" focused too much on downstream #EV and #battery - to get the $35kwh credit; - incumbent OEMs complained the minerals sourcing requirements were impossible to meet; - so guidance rules made it easier to source from "friendly" countries; - which led to reduction in incentive for US midstream investment - mining, processing CAM, pCAM; - JB is bullish Trump won't kill IRA but will re-write implementation guidelines; - and that he'll welcome more foreign companies (China) to partner with US companies in the US; - which is why he's optimistic; - battery demand is thriving in the USA, but even if we had more lithium mining there's not a customer for it; - we need nickel, cobalt, CAM, pCAM - building a gigafactory in reverse; - EV growth rate may have slowed, but it's still growing fast; - only 1.8% of the US vehicle fleet is electrified - we have 98% to go; - this is multi-decade transition; - think long-term Well done @sdmoores @amiller_bmi
