Who am I? Part Five — Solo mining and smarter mining.
I want to be honest.
For most people, buying Bitcoin is probably better than trying to mine it at home.
I have worked through the comparisons:
power cost, hardware cost, efficiency, heat, difficulty and return on investment.
The maths is not always kind.
But solo mining is different for me.
It is more like a lottery ticket powered by engineering.
Most of the time, nothing happens.
You watch the hashrate, the shares, the best difficulty, the temperatures and the power draw.
Then you improve the setup anyway.
Cooling.
Firmware.
Airflow.
Fan mounts.
Enclosures.
3D printed parts.
Better monitoring.
My Bambu Lab printer helps with miner mods, fan parts and enclosures. My Octaxe setup has a 3D printed enclosure built around the cooling.
I also use Salad on my gaming rig, which is proving profitable with hardware I already own.
This is not me pretending I have cracked the code.
I have not.
It is about learning, testing, comparing and making the numbers better.
Build it.
Measure it.
Make it better.
Follow for Part Six — solar offset, and trying to make home mining more affordable.
