It does define Financial Planning. It lists the minimum elements that should be included in a financial plan, and it lists the knowledge domains CFPs are responsible for.
Sure, some people get the letters and never practice financial planning. I don't see the problem there. I know CPAs, CFAs, and Lawyers who hold their letters but don't practice.
The bigger issue I think you're meaning to highlight are the advisors who claim to be offering financial planning, but aren't (whether they hold the CFP letters or not). That's a very big problem. I agree.
But then your original tweet should have been about that, not saying that financial planning itself has no value.

I don’t think there was ever a time where quant funds (as opposed to traditional L/S) wanted CFAs, and in many ways the CFA curriculum is antithetical to the quant style of investing. At my firm the only people with CFAs are the non-technical strategy/ops people who don’t really do any investing.

Je me permets juste de dire que le bac permet l'accès à des diplômes conduisant à des postes que l'IA va réduire en quantité.
D'un autre côté les artisans ne trouvent pas de remplaçants pour des jobs qu'aucune ia ou robot ne remplace : -88% d'aide aux CFAs 🤔🤔 c'est dingue...
L’effondrement de notre niveau en maths découle directement de l’effondrement de l’exigence.
J’ai demandé à ChatGPT d’évaluer, à grille constante, des sujets de bac maths représentatifs : 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015, 2025.
Résultat des scores de niveau en maths :
1985 : 18,5/20
1995 : 17/20
2005 : 15/20
2015 : 12,5/20
2025 : 10/20
Ce qui s’effondre, ce n’est pas seulement la technicité du calcul.
C’est l’autonomie.
Les anciens sujets demandaient de chercher, démontrer, tenir un raisonnement long, manipuler des objets abstraits, construire une stratégie.
Les sujets récents sont beaucoup plus guidés, découpés, sécurisés. On donne la méthode, on fragmente la difficulté, on réduit la part de recherche.
Or le bac n’est pas seulement un examen : c’est un signal envoyé à tout le système scolaire.
Quand le bac devient moins exigeant, le lycée s’adapte. Quand le lycée s’adapte, le collège suit. Et quand toute la chaîne baisse l’exigence, le niveau général s’effondre mécaniquement.
On ne relèvera pas les maths avec des slogans, des tablettes ou des “innovations pédagogiques”.
On relèvera les maths en remettant de la difficulté, de la démonstration, du calcul, de l’abstraction et de l’exigence dans les examens.
Pas d’exigence au bac = pas de niveau national.

SEBI has already made it compulsory to Pass NISM certifications if some one wants to work in financial markets.
Even CAs,CFAs also need to pass these.
Why not retail public too?
We need to educate our public regarding financial products specially derivatives.
Noone can beat the hedge funds having tech budget of millions with s smart phone and a 5G connection.
Just banning the products is not a solution.
We have already destroyed forex market, agro derivatives due to these policies

It's quite a thing that CAs CFas who have worked hard and studied to become subject matter experts cannot give financial advise incidental to their nature of work while anyone can graduate, write a SEBI RA or RIA exam and offer financial advise.
