How can Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (
#COPD) be prevented and effectively treated?
Over 120 clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates met at the ERSCOPD-iNET Research Symposium in Prague to discuss innovative approaches.
Organized by Prof. Mareike Lehmann (
#HelmholtzMunich, Marburg University, DZL) and Prof. Suzanne Cloonan (Trinity College Dublin), the two-day event demonstrated how international collaboration drives innovation in prevention, early detection, and therapy.
💡One key message: COPD begins early in life.
Prematurity, early-life infections, and environmental exposures can leave lasting marks on lung health.
💬 “We need to understand these early origins of disease to not only cure but prevent COPD.”
– Prof. Mareike Lehmann
🔬 Talks and breakout sessions explored biomarkers, imaging, organoids, and AI-driven models such as digital twins – tools that could transform how we monitor and treat COPD.
💬 “Only together, can we prevent and cure COPD. The two days here in Prague once again demonstrated how important this network is in addressing this serious disease.”
