#WorldCOPDDay “Short of Breath, Think COPD” Helmholtz Munich Drives Research for New Diagnostics, Therapies and Prevention Strategies🫁 👉t1p.de/2sxmc #COPD, the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a progressive and currently incurable lung disease in which the airways become inflamed and permanently narrowed (obstruction). 💡Worldwide, COPD ranks as the third leading cause of death, with over three million people affected in Germany alone. The challenge: lung damage can occur long before a formal diagnosis is made. Early warning signs like coughing or shortness of breath are often overlooked or underestimated. The World COPD Day 2025 aims to raise awareness of COPD and to highlight the importance of early diagnosis, as the disease is often detected too late. 🌟At #HelmholtzMunich, researchers are driving the development of new diagnostics, therapies, and prevention strategies for COPD. The goal is to understand the immunological foundations of the disease, the impact of nutrition and environmental factors, and how these influences interact with the immune system during the onset and progression of COPD. 👉Check out the Research Highlight “New Hope for Lung Diseases”: t1p.de/lormr @DZG_Forschen @GOLD_COPD @AlionderCPC @LungHealthMUC @StiftungAtemweg #GOLDCOPD2025 #COPDAwareness #LungHealth #ThinkCOPD

At @HelmholtzMunich we are working toward new therapies for #LungDiseases. Our major goal to investigate why COPD develops and progresses, aiming to translate these insights into better treatments. We have founded @copd_inet, where we connect worldwide to advance COPD research.
#WorldLungDay "Healthy Lungs, Healthy Life"🫁 This is the topic of the #WorldLungDay2025. It focuses on practical steps individuals can take and systemic changes needed for better respiratory care. At #HelmholtzMunich, researchers are paving the way for therapies of #LungDiseases. 💡One of the goals is to prevent and treat #COPD. Prof. Önder Yildirim and his team investigate why and how COPD progresses. 👨‍🔬 Önder Yildirim is Director of the Institute of Lung Health and Immunity at #HelmholtzMunich & founder of @copd_inet. 🎥 Watch the video and learn more about how to prevent and treat COPD! @AlionderCPC @copd_inet @LungHealthMUC #COPD2025 #LungHealth #COPDiNet

Incredible work👇MouseMapper AI sounds like a powerful step forward in systems-level biology. Huge potential for translational insight.. BTW. how does lung 🫁 look like in obesity???
We have developed MouseMapper AI, a deep learning ensemble for the analysis of whole-body systems, including the nervous and immune systems, to map disease/drug perturbations tissue by tissue, organ by organ, at the cellular level in 3D. MouseMapper uncovered obesity-induced whole-neuronal changes, most notably, a loss of trigeminal nerve endings linked to impaired whisker sensitivity, as well as tissue-specific macrophage clustering across the body. “Humans have long coexisted with fire and smoke, and this exposure has significantly influenced our biology—especially our lungs. Cooking food, staying warm, and surviving in primitive shelters all meant constant interaction with smoke. This exposure likely played a role in shaping the lung’s defense systems, suggesting they may be among the most resilient organs in the body, though not indestructible”.
