Did you hear Little Amal is coming to Belfast in May?
Amal, meaning ‘hope’ in Arabic, is a giant puppet of a 10-year refugee who has become an international symbol of human rights.
Between 16-19 May join us for community-led celebrations focusing on diversity, inclusion and peace created for Little Amal by our city’s leading artists.
We’re inviting residents from all parts of the city to get behind helping us welcome Little Amal, in what will be the biggest co-creation effort the city has ever seen!
⛵Help us create a welcome spectacle as Amal arrives along the River Lagan. Come along, make banners, wave flags and ring bells as she embarks on her journey across the island of Ireland.
🧵Join the community effort to make Amal a blanket to keep her warm while she sleeps at St Anne’s Cathedral, with over 100 designs sewn together into a beautiful patchwork quilt.
🎶Sing in our Sanctuary Choir with joyous music and song to welcome Amal.
🌻Take part in a springtime procession through the city centre where the streets will come alive with a moving forest of wildlife, flowers and nature, as Amal is crowned The May Queen.
🦁Put your stamp on a large-scale map for Amal to find her way through Narnia at CS Lewis Square.
🌙 Be part of the magic to protect Amal on her onward journey as she meets Celtic mythological figures from the Tuatha Dé Danann at Cavehill.
