All CSUs and UCs.

Has the Master Plan for Higher Education just been scrapped? UCs and even CSUs were never for remedial education, but we have a great community college system for this that is practically free and allows easier transfers to UCs if requirements are met. Bring back the Master Plan!

Are there any state advocacy organizations working to fix these issues at UCs and CSUs? Prof. @minilek can’t do it alone.

He didn’t apply to any CSUs so he will this time around even though he aced calculus at CC and that puts him online for a UC TAG or transfer to another. I’ve never seen him work so hard in his life. He ended up with a 97% in the class, but he went to campus tutoring 4x a week.

Several of the CSUs are very good schools now and depending on his major, could actually be better than a UC. The CC route is a good and in some ways better because its a very clear, approved path. The UCs are required to take a certain number of transfers from the California CCs and he will save a ton of money. Side note, but it will tell you something. UCSB has a two hour video online that ends with the exact person to contact and work with on your transfer application. UCSD has a one hour video on the process and another one hour video on completing the application. UCLA has a five minute video showing someone who is probably an undergrad. The first three minutes is a land acknowledgement and the rest is her saying "the rest is on our website".

Makes sense. UCs and CSUs routinely decline qualified CA students. So they leave the state.

I will add there is a part of the testing that serves as the English placement for CSUs. In addition to the 11th graders taking the CAASPP, 12th graders take the CAST, which is the science test. I have often said that the state could develop its own test to accomplish both goals.

Is this also affecting CSUs? Or have their scores stayed the same?

There are 23 CSU campuses so they probably picked the few most competitive ones (SLO, San Diego, San Jose) or or else they would have likely been accepted to multiple CSUs unless nursing or engineering which are both impacted almost everywhere.

California is an “exporter” of college students because UC admissions are so tough except at UC Merced and UC Riverside. The top CSUs are more desirable. Not sure why you think CA is in bad shape.

I think this is an indication that antitrust applies to small business units too. Not good for CSUs VMS business. But I think they'll diversify to other areas over time.
