Over the weekend, at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity in Onitsha, I witnessed a divine convergence of faith, family, and future as Rev. Fr. Damian Ifeanyi Omenugha and Rev. Fr. Rufus Chika Ezechukwu were ordained to the priesthood in the order of Melchizedek, among other newly ordained.
Rev. Damian Omenugha is the son of my dear friends, the acclaimed administrator and exemplary academician, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Lord Mike Omenugha.
The ceremony, officiated by His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian M. Okeke, was a celebration of a sacred calling and a testament to the power of devotion and the enduring strength of the Roman Catholic Church’s spiritual fabric.
As Frs. Damian and Rufus knelt before the altar, I was reminded of our fallibility as humans and our need to surrender completely to God’s will. In their yes to God, we see a beacon of hope for a generation in need of light.
I was later to join their first mass at St Paul Catholic Church Nnobi where Rev. Fr. Damian Omenugha and Rev. Fr. Rufus Ezechukwu were chief celebrants. It was indeed a spiritually enriching celebration.
May your priesthood be a vessel for conversion, healing, wisdom, and salvation. Amen
