Two cameras built for a journey to the Moon. 🌕 In 1969, the historic moments of the Apollo 11 mission were captured by two specially adapted Hasselblad cameras: the silver Hasselblad Data Camera (HDC) and the black Hasselblad Electric Camera (HEC). Equipped with a Zeiss Biogon 60mm f/5.6 lens and a Réseau plate for precision measurement, the HDC was used to document the lunar surface with extraordinary accuracy. Meanwhile, the HEC, fitted with a Zeiss Planar 80mm f/2.8 lens, recorded key moments from inside the Eagle lunar module. Together, these cameras helped preserve one of humanity’s greatest achievements, frame by frame. #Hasselblad #Apollo11 #MoonLanding #NASA #SpaceExploration #HasselbladHistory #HDC #HEC #CameraHistory #PhotographyHistory

Every shutter release in space becomes a fragment of history. During the Apollo missions, Hasselblad cameras were more than instruments. They served as humanity’s eyes in orbit, bringing both the Moon and Earth into view from beyond our planet. Built for the most extreme conditions, from the dedicated HDC used across Apollo 8 to 11 to the precision engineering embodied in the 203FE, each system reflects the same pursuit of reliability and image integrity. Together, they transformed demanding moments in space into enduring visual records. #Hasselblad #HDC #203FE #MediumFormat #CameraHistory #ApolloMissions #NASA #SpacePhotography #MoonLanding

In 1962, the Hasselblad 500C was re-engineered for NASA’s Mercury missions. To reduce weight, the leather covering was removed and the metal body was finished in a dark coating, making it better suited for use in space. From that point on, Hasselblad cameras accompanied humanity’s journey beyond Earth. The images created did more than document events. They became part of our shared history. One of the most iconic moments was captured in June 1965, when astronaut Edward H. White carried out the first American spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. 📸 @NASA #Hasselblad #500C #MediumFormat #CameraHistory #Space #GeminiIV #NASA

In 1969, the Apollo 11 Moon Landing reshaped how we see our world. Earth rising beyond the horizon, a quiet blue glow seen from space. Buzz Aldrin stepping onto the lunar surface. Footprints left on the Moon, marking one of humanity’s greatest firsts. 🌍🌕 These historic moments were captured with the silver Hasselblad Data Camera and the black Hasselblad Electric Camera. If you could take just one photograph in space, what would you capture? 📸@NASA #Hasselblad #MediumFormat #CameraHistory #Apollo11 #MoonLanding #Space #NASA

In 1957, a new chapter in photography quietly began. ✨ With the introduction of the Hasselblad 500C, a new level of precision and flexibility took shape. Its leaf shutter with flash synchronization, paired with an automatic diaphragm lens, offered photographers a more refined way to work with light. Just a few years later, it traveled beyond Earth. 🚀 In 1962, the 500C was carried aboard a Mercury mission, becoming part of a story that extended far beyond photography. From cultural milestones to timeless portraits, the 500 series became a trusted presence behind the lens. Across disciplines and decades, it has helped shape how moments are recorded and remembered. #Hasselblad #Hasselblad500C #MediumFormat #FilmPhotography #AnalogPhotography #PhotographyHistory #CameraHistory

Zahn describes and illustrates so many cameras and lanterns in ‘Oculus artificialis teledioptricus sive Telescopium,’ published in 1702, that he out-does Kircher in his combined editions of ‘Ars Magna.’ #camerahistory #history Pictured are four pages showing Camera Obscuras: pp172, 178, 689, 692. What an amazing book from 323 years ago. You don't have to read Latin - you can easily translate as you go. And all images are in English.
Zahn also designed several portable Camera Obscuras for drawing using the 45-degree mirror, and used side flaps to shield unwanted light (seen in the left image). Zahn's Camera Obscuras were the closest thing to what 19th century cameras were.
