I had to look this up, Reading Magistrates Court was told that Daniel Meyrick suffered a fractured hip requiring surgery and pins after former Dorset Police officer Lorne Castle restrained him on June 19 2025.
The 47 year old faces one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent under section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act. Castle has pleaded not guilty.
He held the man for 15 to 30 minutes at the Castlepoint shopping centre in Bournemouth until police arrived. Although, Court and police documents contain no mention of the shoplifter carrying a knife during the incident.
