Canada needs more homes. Residential construction needs more people ready to build them. That means more women seeing home building and renovation as serious, long-term career paths. Across Canada, local and provincial HBAs are helping open more doors through mentorship, education, networking, and career support for women in the industry. Through CHBA’s Women in Residential Construction network, these efforts are being shared and strengthened across the country. This matters for the whole sector. More skilled workers and stronger leadership will help build a healthier future for residential construction in Canada. From @craigslord @cdnpressnews @globeandmail: “@CMHC_ca chief economist Mathieu Laberge published a report that says reducing or eliminating development charges could increase the number of viable projects, but the numbers vary by city.” theglobeandmail.com/business… While cutting development charges (DCs) alone won’t solve Canada’s #housingaffordability challenges, it will go a long way to helping, along with other measures that are required. CHBA is supportive of the recent federal government-Ontario announcement to offset DCs through the Build Communities Strong Fund and is encouraging that the federal government and the other provinces land on similar deals. CHBA also continues to advocate for municipalities to find alternative funding models for infrastructure to permanently lower DCs. Learn more: affordability.ca/information…
