When communities lead, change follows
In the remote village of Maykot, Uttarakhand, recurring landslides destroyed a vital road. Yet, instead of waiting for change, the villagers came together—mobilised and motivated by Goonj—to rebuild their path to safety, experiencing how material acted as a reward aligned with their basic needs. This journey not only restored connectivity but also awakened innate dignity and self-worth, uniting all as equal stakeholders. This is what true resilience looks like—when communities drive.
Over the years, Goonj’s engagement in Uttarakhand has spanned disaster relief, livelihood recovery, women-led initiatives, and circular economy practices. From establishing women-led production units to creating cloth pads (MY Pads) and utility items like sujnis and aasans, we turn local skills and urban surplus into tangible community resilience.
Join us at the Dehradun Chaupal to listen, reflect, and move forward with such stories.
