The logic is simple. As the legs lead the downswing, the swingplane drops. In other words, the clubpath on the backswing is not the same in the downswing. A clubpath on the downswing is inside his backswing (& moreso for him) resulting in the clubhead returning to the ball.

You can deduce clubface and clubpath angles pretty well from ball flight alone, unless...your shot has a lot of curvature. By the time we look up, it's very easy to miss the starting direction which is the closest proxy for face angle.

Neck tilt changes can influence clubpath and shot shape.

A clubpath at full speed that is negative/left.
