Want to understand club path and how it impacts your ball flight? In this Metric Minute, Mark Blackburn breaks down what club path actually means, why it matters, and how tools like the MLM2PRO can help you see exactly what your swing is doing.
Whether you’re trying to hit draws, fades, or just make more consistent contact, understanding your club path is a game changer.

The logic is simple. As the legs lead the downswing, the swingplane drops. In other words, the clubpath on the backswing is not the same in the downswing. A clubpath on the downswing is inside his backswing (& moreso for him) resulting in the clubhead returning to the ball.
I'm surprised this rule wasn't addressed in the earlier round when Mo was pulling long grass
Paige should've known about improving line of clubpath
Mo definitely changed his rangefinder
Staying “in your posture” can have some serious drawbacks on your golf swing:
- Less speed ❌
- Changes to clubpath ❌
- Low point moving ❌
Ultimately, it’s going to make it harder to CONSISTENTLY hit target.
But why? 👇
The full lesson (link below) explains all of this in full, but opening up your trail shoulder during the backswing can have a HUGE impact on:
1) Distance
2)Ball striking
3) Clubpath
Three things I’m sure you would love to improve on!
Here’s an easy swing drill which will help you nail your backswing…
Man if I could just get this IO path a little less drastic and a more square club face we will be cooking. Overcorrected the OI path and now trying to find a middle ground. Clubpath is closed with every other club except driver.

@kenworthygolf Thank you so much for your analysis. Everything you say makes perfect sense to me. I will be working on your points straight away👍 1. Weaken left hand grip 2. Shallow shaft earlier in downswing 3. Neutralise clubpath - to exit lower/ more left.🏌️♂️😀thank you again
Alright what is #handpath what is #clubpath ? Everyone is different but if the initial takeaway has the hands working slightly inside and the club head outside the hands you should be in good shape to get the club on plane coming down…#WTDRP@MillerLite
You can deduce clubface and clubpath angles pretty well from ball flight alone, unless...your shot has a lot of curvature.
By the time we look up, it's very easy to miss the starting direction which is the closest proxy for face angle.
