I received in my office the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Suleman Yussif, together with the Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Prof. Anthony Owusu Ansah, at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC). Following our meeting, I had the honour of leading them to the Manhyia Palace to pay a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce the newly constituted Ashanti Regional Lands Commission to the King and to reaffirm our collective commitment to transparent, fair, and effective land administration in the region. I received the Ashanti Regional Head of the NIA and his team at my office. I’m pleased to share that, with the support of the NIA Head Office under the leadership of the Executive Secretary Yayra Koku, over 110,000 blank cards have been allocated to the region — a major boost that will enable the NIA to clear the backlog of approximately 80,000 pending Ghana Card applications. We also had a frank discussion on the troubling issue of non-Ghanaians acquiring the Ghana Card through the assistance of some unscrupulous individuals. This practice undermines the integrity of our national database and must be tackled head-on with tighter scrutiny and community vigilance.
