Italian-Thai President Premchai Among 17 Denied Bail in Fatal SAO Building Case
Premchai Karnasuta, the president of Italian-Thai Development Co, the main Thai contractor for the State Audit Office (SAO) building project, as well as designers and engineers who were among 17 charged with the felony of professional negligence causing death were sent to court on Friday, May 16, and were denied bail. As a result, all suspects were immediately detained and sent to prison.
At 8:00 PM, it was reported that the court rejected the temporary release requests of all 13 suspects, considering that this case caused enormous and horrifying damage with significant societal impact.
Additionally, investigators and victims objected to their release, fearing they might flee and be difficult to track down. The case still requires testimony from 15 more witnesses, and there are reasonable grounds to wait for the investigation to be completed first. At this stage, temporary release is not permitted, and a more detailed consideration will follow later.
