She was born in Tehran in 1944 and raised in the UK. She studied theatre and later turned to poetry. Her writing blends Persian and English traditions. She has published nine poetry collections. Critics praise her lyrical style and emotional depth. In 2023, she won the King’s Gold Medal for Poetry. She also co-founded The Poetry School in London.
