動画の学校の受講生Sは、ポストプロダクションの品質基準を引き上げるタイミングで、10-bit処理の意義を理解していなかった。
「8-bitで撮影した素材を10-bitで書き出す意味はない」——これは多くの実務者が持つ、合理的に見える誤解だ。しかし現実は違う。
エンコードの内部演算では、カラーグレーディングや圧縮処理の過程で数値の丸め誤差が発生する。8-bit（256段階）での計算では、この誤差が空のグラデーション部や肌色の中間調に縞状のバンディングとして現れる。10-bit（1,024段階）で演算処理を行うことで、誤差の蓄積が最小化され、最終出力の滑らかさが確保される。
SはHEVC 10-bitとx264 8-bitの比較テストを実施し、グラデーション部の品質差を数値（ΔE値）で確認した後、制作フロー全体のビット深度基準を改定した。
映像品質の向上は、機材の更新だけでは実現できない。設定と知識の積み上げが、最終的な画の品位を決める。
