We had the incredible honour of celebrating Mashujaa Day with the vibrant Kenyan diaspora community in Estonia—a gathering filled with pride, warmth, and the unmistakable spirit of home. It was a true pleasure for the Golden Connections delegation to meet and connect with fellow Kenyans living, working, and studying across Estonia. Through open conversations and heartfelt exchanges, we heard first-hand stories of resilience, growth, challenges, and triumphs. These experiences reminded us that heroism is not just about national icons, but also about the everyday courage of those forging new paths far from home. After losing her sight, Amanda faced the same emotional and mental challenges that many do: “It was quite a difficult thing to deal with mentally…” But instead of giving up, she leaned into sport—first cricket and tennis, where she became a world champion, and then to golf, where she found community, fresh air, and connection. Through England & Wales Blind Golf, Amanda now plays alongside people of all ages, supported by her best friend, her husband, and her daughter, who all help guide her on the course.
