The Africa Mining Accountability Platform (AMAP) is a comprehensive platform designed to monitor and report on various socio-economic and environmental issues related to mining and GRI standards, providing users with actionable insights and data-driven reports.
Since AMAP's launch, SARW has led ongoing regional trainings in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and DRC aimed at putting the platform in the hands of community-based advocates; the on-the-ground leaders of mining-affected communities engaged in community awareness, supporting community participation, dialogue and accountability. The goal of this training is to onboard these advocates onto the AMAP platform, empowering them to report any environmental and social issues in their areas at any time, creating a living record of the effects mining has had on their land, and creating a trail of accountability leading directly to the stakeholders responsible for these issues.
This morning, the SARW team began its Community Reporters Training in Pemba, Mozambique, onboarding a group of six civil society representatives onto AMAP. Between today and tomorrow, these advocates will be trained on how to download, access and report issues on AMAP, as well as on how to onboard their communities onto the platform following the training.
This training is ongoing, and aims to create a continent in which the people most affected by the risks of mining are given a voice with as much reach as those who put their communities in danger.
