In 1998, I was 12 years old - fist raised, voice loud, heart full of something I didn’t yet have words for. This photograph is from the Global March Against Child Labour, where 7.2 million people marched across 103 countries. That march led to ILO Convention 182 - the first universally ratified international labour convention - against the worst forms of child labour. And it planted the seed for what we mark today as the World Day Against Child Labour. 138 million children are still waiting. Still working instead of learning. Still denied the chance to simply be children. The journey is nowhere near over. Today, with my colleagues at @smgc_official, we renewed our pledge - to keep marching, in every form that takes. Our Founder @k_satyarthi gave us a clarion call in 1998: globalize compassion for our children. That call is louder now, not quieter. Compassion is not a soft emotion. It is a conviction. It means believing that every single child — anywhere in the world — is our child. And that we cannot sit still until every one of them has freedom, rights, justice, and a chance to dream. Another landmark moment at the Bhutan Compassionate Leadership Forum. Following the unveiling of the Global Compassion Declaration, the Forum also marked the signing of the MoU and launch of JSW–Satyarthi Compassionate Action Lab (JSW-SCAL), a joint initiative of the @PMBhutan and #SMGC. JSW-SCAL has been created to bring together ideas, learning, and action to make compassion a guiding principle in leadership, governance, and justice systems. Its goal is to help ensure that compassion is reflected in the decisions, policies, and institutions that shape societies and people's lives. Bhutan is a fitting home for this initiative. Through the vision of Gross National Happiness (GNH), championed by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Bhutan has demonstrated that progress is measured not only by economic growth but also by well-being, environmental stewardship, cultural values, and leadership. This vision closely aligns with the compassion championed by Nobel Peace Laureate Mr. @k_satyarthi, who advocates compassion as a force for justice, peace, equality, and sustainability. Together, GNH and compassion offer a shared framework for people-centred leadership and a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. We were deeply honoured by the gracious invitation and warm hospitality extended by the Swiss Ambassador to India and Bhutan at the Swiss Residence in New Delhi. Ambassadors from 12 countries, from Latin America to across Europe to South East Asia and #SMGC Founder Mr. @k_satyarthi, Co-Founder Mrs. @sumedhakailash and CEO Ms. @as_satyarthi came together for a meaningful and reflective dialogue.
