Philippine universities are revamping college courses in a bid to combat the obsolescence of routine degrees. Top schools are not banning generative AI but instead updating their curriculums to focus on ethical integration, microcredentials, and strategic assessments. The move removes the need to test through memorization, ensuring that the next generation of Filipino graduates can steer automation and not compete with it. THE DEATH OF COPY-PASTE HOMEWORK  Local universities are completely overhauling how they grade students as generative AI automates essay writing and manual coding assignments. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) held a specialized faculty conference entitled "The Age of Assessment in AI" last April. The primary mandate for program chairs was to completely redesign academic assessments, shifting away from static take-home papers. The new standard is shifting to continuous, real-time grading. This includes live oral defenses, interactive software simulations, dynamic project-based group milestones, and "proctored critical thinking evaluations," which require students to defend the logic behind an AI-generated output rather than simply submitting the final text. THE RISE OF MICROCREDENTIALS Because rapid technological shifts can make a rigid, four-year curriculum outdated by graduation day, local institutions are breaking down traditional courses into modular paths. State schools like Caraga State University have paired up with UP to benchmark institutional systems for offering microcredentials this school year. Instead of waiting four years for a blanket business administration or IT degree, students now earn hyper-specific, stackable industry badges such as AI prompt architecture, data ethics governance, or predictive logistics analysis. This modular approach allows universities to rapidly update sub-courses every six months to match real-world workplace tool shifts without needing to undergo years of formal CHED (Commission on Higher Education) curriculum revision. DEPED AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE SECTOR REALIGNMENT  The restructuring is being implemented at a national regulatory level, ensuring that students entering college are already free of routine learning habits. The Department of Education (DepEd) has officially authorized the structured, controlled use of artificial intelligence tools in over 45,000 public schools through the new ILAW Framework (Intentions, Learning Experience, Assessing Learning, and Ways Forward). The policy explicitly eliminates routine documentation for 900,000 teachers, allowing them to focus on core student competencies such as human logic and critical analysis. Simultaneously, private universities such as Ateneo de Manila University hosted multi-sector roundtables, including "Reimagining Higher Education in an AI-Driven Ecosystem," last May, which brought together international education experts to map a standardized blueprint for ensuring that localized corporate degrees retain strong, human-centered, ethical components. The new curricular standard across UP, Ateneo, and major tech schools trains students as AI orchestrators and ethical evaluators. This ensures the future workforce possesses the critical thinking required to manage AI tools effectively, rather than being replaced by them. How do you feel about local universities abandoning traditional essays and take-home papers? Do you think stackable microcredentials are better than a traditional four-year degree?  (By Walter C. Villa) #radarPH

Our team finalised week 1 of the 5 day pilot testing of the scalable Digital Skills Training models in the various schools and community hubs Throughout the training, teachers were equipped with digital competencies and subsequently guided fellow participants and students through the seven result areas of the UNICEF Digital Skills Toolkit, promoting practical learning and peer-to-peer knowledge transfer. The programme focused on strengthening digital literacy, online communication, content creation, responsible digital citizenship, and the effective use of digital tools in teaching and learning. Through hands-on sessions, participants gained valuable skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. What stood out most was that of the four models being tested, the student-led digital clubs model of digital skills delivery was most preferred by the students, emphasising that peer learning is a key component when it comes to skills transfer Speaking at the closing ceremony, Team Lead CPA @BSsekitto in Madi Okollo commended both teachers and students for their commitment and active participation throughout the training. while in Isingiro our CEO @judlub encouraged them to continue practicing and sharing the skills acquired, emphasizing that digital literacy is a lifelong asset that can open doors to education, innovation, and future opportunities. The sessions concluded with the awarding of certificates to participating teachers and students in recognition of their dedication to advancing digital skills within their school community.

Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme Leaps Further in Progress With Outstanding Week Seven Activities The 2026 Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme has recorded further milestones as it advances into mid-June, completing a highly transformative series of deliveries for Week Seven of the academic third term. Students across various participating centers demonstrated significant progress in enhancing their digital and technical competencies through practical, high-demand skill training. According to updates from the programme's @DigitalKwara media team, the seventh week featured a strong focus on the ethical and efficient utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Students leveraged these technologies to deepen their comprehension of programming fundamentals, specifically focusing on Python. In tandem with programming, the curriculum advanced further into cybersecurity essentials, introducing early learners to Python modules and the practical authentication of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). These security awareness sessions are designed to equip participants with critical protection principles necessary for responsible digital citizenship. Beyond classroom instruction, administrative activities were executed to sustain the initiative's operational standards. A primary highlight of the week was the Instructors' Engagement Meeting, which brought together instructors, technical teams, and key stakeholders to review overall progress, issue essential updates, and address existing operational gaps to maximize program delivery. Concurrently, a Needs Assessment Call was instituted to systematically gather reports regarding manpower, technical deficits, and infrastructural challenges affecting training sessions across the various centers. Alongside these assessments, the structured Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions maintained their scheduled consistency to ensure instructors remain fully equipped. Stakeholders, including instructors, students, and technical coordination teams, have expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, noting that the consistent support continues to foster intellectual and physical empowerment for the youth. The ongoing initiative reflects Kwara State's structured commitment to bridging the digital divide, preparing young citizens with the necessary technical skills to compete effectively in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

Even people with a sound geneological history of being a British Citizen can be stupid. The question is: what competencies are needed to occupy a seat in Parliament. What knowledge, skills, abilities & values are essential for the job? What penalties for misconduct in role?
Adaptability, communication & ethical decision-making are no longer optional. They are essential. Our Workplace Essential Skills Programme NQF 4 builds these competencies in an accredited, practical format: 🌐 hubs.ly/Q04lcfrg0 #WorkplaceSkills #YouthMonth2026 #FutureOfWork
