Vast stretches of china hasn't changed for 200 years.
North West China where they are muslim majority, have concentratio.... err, "reeducation-camps".
The costal area and major city hubs are westernized, but in the contryside... not much has changed.
And finally... the "paramount leader" of China is Xi Jinping. He holds just as much or more power than the emperors of old. Just as Russia replaced one Tzar with another, and still have a Tzar running the nation today.
Some things never change. Especially in the east.

Meaning of “伏魔御厨子(Malevolent Shrine)”
Sukuna’s Domain Expansion is called “伏魔御厨子(Fukuma Mizushi)”, Malevolent Shrine in English.
This is a word made up of two words.
伏魔(Fukuma) : 伏魔(Fukuma) is coming from the word “伏魔殿(Fukumaden)”.
It means a place where evil people gather and plot all sorts of mischief. In novels, games, and other creative works, the term is used to refer to a hall where demons lurk, and is also used metaphorically to describe a place where conspiracies and evil deeds are constantly being hatched.
The origin of this word is the name of a building in the Chinese biographical novel "水滸伝(Suikoden)”. In the story, a Taoist seals the Demon King in the basement of a building built in the mountains. A signboard was hung at the eaves of the building with the words "伏魔殿(Fukumaden)" written in gold letters, and later, people say that this "伏魔殿(Fukumaden)" is "a place that must never be unsealed".
御厨子(Mizushi): This is a respectful term for 厨子(Zushi), meaning a container in which important objects such as Buddhist statues and relics are kept. It also means a kitchen.
Sukuna’s technique is about slashing something. That’s why his Domain Expansion is “Demon Kitchen”.

also, if u ever lived in a small town/contryside u would know the setting felt very real, bc this is exactly how it is, ESPECIALLY if something big like a missing kid or a divorce would happen. Pity they forgot about their own setting later on

hawkins in s1 really feels like its own character, the setting of an oppressive small town where everyone knows each other and is judgmental towards people who don’t fit in was very important for the tone of the series and that totally disappears in later seasons
