🌍✨ How do you see me? How do I see you? And how do I see myself? ✨🌍
These were just some of the powerful reflections that echoed through tonight’s See You See Me session
@FireFitHub in Toxteth, delivered by MD Productions under the banner of our Hands Across the Mersey initiative.
This evening, young people brought not just their energy and talent — but their heritage, stories, and pride. We shared space, creativity, and culture — exploring our identities through the powerful lens of the arts.
Our Heritage & Culture discussion opened a truly beautiful exchange. Together, we recognised the rich tapestry of our roots: Moroccan, Ghanaian, Welsh, Irish, Albanian, Nigerian, Turkish, Danish — and beyond. 🌏✨
We challenged stereotypes. We talked about belonging. We realised that even if we don’t “look” like the textbook version of our cultures, we are still part of them. 💬
And through dance, we found our shared language. From ballet’s African and Japanese influences to the Afro roots of ballroom and voguing, we celebrated that dance transcends borders. It’s the universal language — the rhythm that allows us all to speak without saying a word.
🔥 The passion, the curiosity, the mutual respect and joy tonight was electric. The young people showed up with heart, and it’s clear why this work matters. Because understanding each other starts with seeing each other. 💛
Now this movement is reaching right across the Liverpool City Region, and tomorrow we continue with the international creation phase of the work alongside the legendary LaVelle Smith.
This is more than a session. It’s a statement.
Let’s keep building bridges — through movement, stories, and soul.
