Checklist Before Sending USDT or ETH — How to Avoid Losing Funds
Before transferring cryptocurrency, it's important to double-check every step. A single mistake can lead to a total loss of funds.
1.Verify the recipient's address manually.
Copy the address only from a trusted source — an official website, verified chat, or email. Make sure the first and last characters of the address match exactly, and check that it hasn’t been altered by clipboard malware.
2.Make sure the correct network is selected.
USDT can exist on TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20, and other networks. ETH is always sent on the Ethereum network. If you send to the wrong network, the funds may become inaccessible.
3.Check if the recipient supports the selected network.
Even if the address is correct, the recipient may not have access to USDT on that particular network. For example, USDT-TRC20 and USDT-ERC20 are technically different assets.
4.Ensure you have enough tokens to pay the network fee.
To send USDT on Ethereum, you need some ETH. For TRC-20, you need a bit of TRX. For BEP-20, some BNB. Without this, the transaction won’t go through.
5.For large transfers, send a small test amount first.
For example, 1 USDT or 0.001 ETH. Make sure it is received before sending the full amount.
6.If sending to an exchange, check if a Memo or Tag is required.
These are usually not needed for USDT or ETH, but there are exceptions. Incorrect or missing tags can lead to lost funds or delays.
7. Secure your device.
Ensure your phone or computer is free from malware. Don’t send crypto through suspicious browser extensions, apps, or public Wi-Fi networks.
8. Save the TXID and take screenshots.
The transaction hash (TXID) proves the transfer occurred. You’ll need it if any issues arise with the recipient or an exchange.
9.Don't rush. Haste is a common cause of errors.
Take 1–2 minutes to double-check everything — it could save you a lot of money.
10.Use only trusted services and exchanges.
Before sending funds, verify that the site is legitimate, secure (begins with https://), and has positive reviews.
By following these simple steps, you significantly reduce the risk of losing funds when transferring cryptocurrency.
