LEDs are a good example too. The diode itself basically lasts forever, it's the chips in the power converters that are designed to burn out after awhile.

Sorry, I can't help you with an idea on this. But I would suggest using a difuser on those LEDs or making them a ledge, so that you don't see every single diode. I am poor, so I went the cheapest route with mine and used a cable raceway, but I think it still looks way better.
