Voices from the North: Shaping Peace from Within Yesterday in Tamale, the @PeaceCouncilGH in collaboration with Résilience pour la Paix and other partners brought together civil society actors and local authorities from the Northern, Northeast, and Upper East Regions for a vital workshop under the Development and Resilience Index against Violent Extremism (#DRIVE) project. The goal? To ensure that the DRIVE survey truly reflects the realities, language, and experiences of communities across Ghana’s five Northern Regions. Participants shared over a dozen local expressions for “violent extremism,” highlighting the importance of designing tools that speak the language of the people they serve. Discussions went beyond words. Participants reflected on the strengths that make their communities resilient: ⚜️ Local knowledge of early warning signs of violent extremism ⚜️Active reporting through the “see something, say something” campaign ⚜️Strong collaboration between traditional leaders, civil society, and security services Facilitators from NPC, Resilience for Peace, and SeeD walked participants through the DRIVE process, showing how this data-driven tool will help communities take smarter, more targeted collective action against the threats they face. #NationalPeaceCouncil #DRIVEProject #CommunityResilience #NPCGhana #Peacebuilding #PreventingViolentExtremism #NorthernGhana
Strengthening Community Resilience Against Violent Extremism 🕊️ @PeaceCouncilGH, under its Development and Resilience Index against Violent Extremism (DRIVE) project, successfully organized a stakeholder consultation workshop on 23rd March 2026 at Peace Star Hotel in Wa. The workshop brought together 23 participants from Saula Tuna Kalba and Bole Districts in the Savanna Region, as well as Wa West, Sisala West, Sisala East, and Lambussie Karni Districts in the Upper West Region. The engagement aimed at strengthening local capacity and deepening collaboration in preventing violent extremism. Delivering remarks on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Director for Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Abdalla Suallah Quandah, emphasized the importance of collective action and evidence-based approaches in addressing emerging security threats. Participants actively contributed to adapting the DRIVE survey tool to reflect the local realities of Northern Ghana. This will support effective data collection in April 2026 to assess both the stress factors and resilience capacities of communities exposed to threats from extremist activities in neighboring countries. The workshop also focused on identifying existing community strengths and leveraging them as strategic entry points for tailored interventions across the participating districts. Through group discussions, participants shared practical success stories in preventing violent extremism, highlighting the power of community-led initiatives. Facilitators, including Mirko Hoff (Resilience for Peace), Stephen Amegadzi (NPC), and Koko Abdon Dominique (SeeD), enriched the session with insights and experiences from Côte d’Ivoire, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the DRIVE methodology and its benefits. The National Peace Council remains committed to building resilient communities and promoting peace and security across Ghana. #NationalPeaceCouncil #DRIVEProject #PreventingViolentExtremism #Peacebuilding #CommunityResilience #NPCGhana

Earlier today, I co-chaired the DRIVE Project Steering Committee with Garissa Governor H.E. Nathif Jama, Chair of the Council of Governors ASAL and Disaster Risk Management Committee, and partners including Kenya Development Corporation, ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) and the World Bank. DRIVE is transforming drought response in ASAL counties by integrating insurance, credit, digital livestock ID and market access to drive sustainable pastoral wealth creation. Timely payouts are cushioning communities from drought impacts—proving drought need not mean disaster. #DRIVEProject #livestockcommercialization #DeliveringthePlan

Artificial Insemination (AI) is a powerful tool in transforming livestock systems. With conception rates of up to 65%, structured AI programs supported by reliable cold chains, skilled technicians, and strong farmer engagement are unlocking significant productivity gains. The opportunity now lies in expanding AI beyond dairy to beef and pastoral systems, where genetic improvement can drive resilience, competitiveness, and regional food security. By integrating science, innovation, and farmer services, AI can raise rural incomes while positioning livestock as a catalyst for sustainable economic transformation. #LivestockInnovation #AgriTransformation #FoodSecurity #ValueChainDevelopment #DRIVEProject @jmueke @Livestock_Dev @MITIKenya @SabdiyoDido @KHC_Botswana
