Data is powerful, but only when it is used to drive action and influence change. As part of the 2026 Climate Champions Fellowship, we are excited to host @IniobongUsen, Senior Programme Officer at the International Budget Partnership, for a session on: โ€œResearch and Data Analysis for Effective Advocacyโ€ tomorrow 26 May, 2026. This session will equip fellows with practical knowledge on how to transform research, data, and evidence into strong advocacy tools for climate accountability and sustainable development. It is our believe that effective climate advocacy must be backed by credible data, community evidence, and strategic storytelling that can influence policy and drive government action. The future of climate accountability belongs to informed advocates ready to ask the right questions and follow the evidence. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“Š #DataForChange

13 years after Nigeriaโ€™s first SARC was established, 51 more have been created. Despite the figures, the numbers remain insufficient relative to the scale of reported and unreported sexual violence cases nationwide. 52 centres across a country of 220 million people tell a story of scarcity. To the 12 states (Bauchi, Katsina, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Rivers, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara) without a SARC, safety and protection for women cannot wait. One woman survives abuse. Now she needs help urgently. But how far is too far to travel for safety, care, and justice? For too many women in Nigeria, the nearest Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) or shelter is too far away, and in some states, these services barely exist. Currently, Nigeria (@NigeriaGov) does not have a SARC or shelter in every local government area. So, before we shame a woman for staying in an abusive environment, let us ask whether the government has provided a real way out. The 2025 Womanity Index provides insights into the status of support services across states. Happy International Day for Biological Diversity Biodiversity is more than wildlife. It is the water we drink, the food we grow, the stability of our climate, and the systems that sustain everyday life. Yet decisions that affect these systems are still often made without clear, accessible, and connected data on what exists, what is being lost, and how quickly change is happening. Across Nigeria, ecological information remains fragmented across reports and institutions, making it difficult to build a full picture of environmental risk and opportunity. At Dataphyte, we are drawing attention to this gap and supporting efforts to make biodiversity data more connected, usable, and open to those working to protect nature. Because nature cannot be protected clearly when it is not clearly seen. #BiodiversityDay #Nature #DataForChange

Ugandaโ€™s Social Protection system remains fragmented, underfunded, and limited in reach. In 2022, only 6.2% of the population received at least one SP benefit, while 21.9% of Ugandans were living on less than $1 a day. The country spends 0.15% of GDP on social protection a tenth of the regional benchmark. These are the numbers behind the human stories ICRW documented. Information and Awareness is the fourth index in the Womanity Index. A key insight from the 2025 Womanity Index is that awareness campaigns cannot continue to rely solely on external funding. The government must take responsibility for its own GBV campaigns to ensure continuity and deeper grassroots reach. As funding becomes harder to secure, evidence now matters more than ever. With deep cuts to foreign aid threatening organizations that provide life-saving services for women and girls, grounding your work in credible data is no longer optional. In this video, Dr. ChiChi Aniagolu-Okoye (@chichiaokoye), Regional Director (West Africa) at the Ford Foundation (@FordFoundation), shares what funders now look for when organizations apply for support. What used to be a major gap is now being addressed by the Womanity Index. Support Services represent the third index of our Womanity Index. Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and Shelters are the formal support systems designed to provide the critical infrastructure, essential guidance and assistance required to shield survivors from their abusers and abusive environments. In our 2025 Womanity Index, we assessed the level of awareness Nigerians have regarding the SARCs and Shelters available in their states. The data reveals a concerning trend: support service infrastructure remains low with poor levels of awareness of these vital centres. While public preference for formal support is growing, the infrastructure required must catch up to meet this need. Access to Legal Justice is the second of the five indices of the Womanity Index. In a promising shift, the 2025 edition reveals a growing preference among Nigerians for formal justice systems. But what happens to those who stand at the side to help victims? Witnesses who testify in courtrooms often return to a life of fear because adequate protection is not yet a reality. We must protect not only the survivors but also the brave individuals who choose to fight alongside them.
