@ProfEmilyOster here is ChatGPT version of your children’s book request in style of your writing. 😂 **Creature of Habit and the Chaos Monster: An Experiment in Change** --- **Page 1:** In Routineville, Creature of Habit thrived on consistency. Data showed his routines made him 95% content. --- **Page 2:** Every morning at 7:00 sharp, his breakfast was quantified: one toast slice with precisely 10g of jam. --- **Page 3:** Statistically, the third swing at the park had the optimal balance of shade and view. That's where he always sat. --- **Page 4:** One day, an anomaly appeared from the hills: the Chaos Monster! His actions had a standard deviation off the charts. --- **Page 5:** Chaos Monster believed in random sampling. He tried different things, testing each to see its effect. --- **Page 6:** Creature of Habit charted the disruption. "My contentment levels are fluctuating!" he noted. --- **Page 7:** The next day, a variable changed: toast at 7:03, with a spread of peanut butter. Creature's satisfaction score? Unexpectedly high. --- **Page 8:** At the park, swing positions had been randomized! Creature of Habit decided to experiment and collect new data. --- **Page 9:** Chaos Monster offered a hypothesis: “Variety might increase overall happiness levels." --- **Page 10:** With systematic sampling, Creature found joy in new swings. Different variables, but positive outcomes. --- **Page 11:** Both began collaborating on a joint study: "Routine vs. Random: What Maximizes Contentment?" --- **Page 12:** They discovered balance was key. While Creature of Habit introduced control groups in Chaos Monster's life, Chaos taught Creature the joy of occasional outliers. --- **Page 13:** Their joint paper concluded: "Change can elevate happiness, but routines offer stability. Optimal contentment lies in the balance." --- **Page 14:** Routineville was renamed DataTown. It became a place of both structured routines and spontaneous joy. --- **Page 15:** Thus, by merging systematic habits with unexpected joys, DataTown's overall happiness index surged by 20%. --- **The End.**

I discovered @mhpdata's datatown today and I do think there's an interesting story to understand about @TownOfAmherst. A 🧵 Background: I grew up here in the 80/90s and moved back in 2020. I have a kid in public school. I'm on the Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust.

MVRDV's Pig City followed their Metacity/Datatown, an exhibition and book project that asked, What if we envisioned a city based "purely" on real data pushed to extreme scenarios?

This issue repeats across MANY Massachusetts communities. Empty nesters staying in large single fams later in life as alternative housing types to 'age in community' don't exist due to decades of exclusionary zoning. As a result, families are unable to 'start' in new communities.

. In 1999 MVRDV, a group of leading architects, did an art project called Metacity / Datatown on how one could conceptually pack the world all together efficiently. The conclusion was that in this way it could be possible to house up to 90 billion people. mvrdv.nl/projects/147/metaci…
